Two One-Act Plays:

Trifles & A Question of Sex

Opening night is Friday, May 5, 2023

Trifles is a one-act play by Susan Glaspell first performed in 1916.

Written during the first wave feminist movement, the play contrasts how women act in public and in private, as well as how they perform in front of other women versus how they perform in front of men. The play is loosely based on the murder of John Hossack, which Glaspell reported on while working as a journalist for the Des Moines Daily News.

A Question of Sex is a one-act play by Arnold Bennett that takes place in London at the turn of the 20th Century.

A baby has been born to George Gower, but an Uncle had promised a significant amount of money if it was a specific sex only, a boy. When George tries to cover up the true sex, he loses out. A funny twist of fate brings financial harmony to all.
