Selections from Spoon River Anthology

Imagine yourself in a small Illinois community a hundred or so years ago.

In the cemetery, people speak from the graves, their epitaphs a commentary of how they lived and died. Some are happy, but most are sad—dissatisfied with how their lives turned out. Life is not always as one had hoped….

Edgar Lee Masters wrote 244 short poems that were published as Spoon River Anthology in 1915. Come hear selections of these poems as the Lamp-Lite Theatre presents its first show in two years. All seats are general admission, and tickets are just $5 each.

Masks are encouraged but not required.

Saturday April 2nd at 7:30 and Sunday April 3rd at 2:00.

Notice From the Lamp-Lite Board of Directors

At its most recent meeting, the Board of Directors of Lamp-Lite Theatre voted to delay opening of the 2021-22 season, and any organized activities at the theater, until after New Year's Day 2022.

Out of concern for the possible resurgence of COVID-19 in our community, and in an abundance of caution, we have made this decision. We believe this is in the best interest of the theatre and the Nacogdoches and East Texas community.

We look forward to opening the season and celebrating our 50th season in a great way in January! Please watch for news of the new season and plan to come join us when the time comes.

Thanks. We hope to see you in January 2022.

Special "August Surprise" Performance

The Lamp-Lite Players will be presenting  a special "August Surprise" performance of The Dixie Swim Club, a lighthearted comedy by the same trio of  writers who created the hysterical East Texas trailer park comedy, "Doublewide, Texas."

Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends, which span a period of thirty-three years.

Performances will be held on the weekends of August 18th and August 25th.

SFA Big Event on April 8

Lampliters, we need your help! SFA has their Big Event next Saturday, April 8th, and we will have a large group of students coming out to the Theatre to help organize and toss stuff from the pole barn and from underneath the Theatre.  This is a major community service opportunity for students, who will do all the physical work.

What we need are folks with trucks/trailers to help transport the stuff to the landfill, as well as people to loan us their garbage bills or city water bills that will allow us access to the landfill for free.

If you have a pickup truck or, even better, a truck with trailer, please contact Brian Oswald by email at boswald@sfasu.edu.
